Project Background – What the Client required?

The client was heavily reliant on oil and wanted to upgrade their current heating system to make it more efficient whilst also reducing the carbon footprint of the business. Due to the nature of the business there is a constant high heat demand required.

The hotel required the installation and maintenance of a highly efficient and fully automated biomass heating system which could be integrated with its current heating system. It would need to run on wood pellets and supply the hotel’s total heating and hot water needs.

The boilers and internal fuel store were located in a plant room designed to blend in with the hotel’s facade and its surroundings.

Our company worked closely with the client to ensure all work was carried out to our usual high standard and completed within a given timeframe ensuring that there was no downtime, to the business and their visitors’ experiences were not compromised by the ongoing project works

Biomass allows the hotel to enjoy substantial fuel cost reductions while also reducing CO2 emissions and maintaining the comfort of its guests.

Our company was contracted to carry out a complete heating system upgrade consisting of the following system elements:

  • 400kW of Biomass
  • Installation Accumulation Tanks
  • Installation of Internal Pellet Store and fuel handling system
  • Plate Heat Exchangers
  • Energy Saving Pumps
  • Thermal Insulation of the Heating System
  • Insulated Pump & Valve Covers
  • Automated BMS Controls System

CHP Mechanical services worked with us from the outset and understood our business, this meant that there was a considerable amount of planning around deliveries to site and connecting the new biomass system into multiple parts of the existing system, all delivery schedules were agreed with Hotel management in advance , whilst all new connections to the existing system were agreed to cause the minimum disruption, some connections were carried out in the middle of the night to avoid any downtime.

CHP Mechanical made the transition from fossil fuel to biomass seamless! CHP continue to maintain the system providing an excellent service.
