Project Name: Maine Medical Practice, Cullybackey

Maine Medical Practice comprises of two surgeries, Maine Medical Cullybackey and Maine Medical Ahoghill.

Maine Medical was founded in 1993 when Dr David Johnston joined Dr Donald Gaston in Cullybackey.

More recently several practices were merged in Ahoghill and Maine Medical Ahoghill was established in 2012.

The practices now have seven GP partners and cares for approximately 10,000 patients in and around Ahoghill and Cullybackey.

Project Background – What the Client required?

CHP Mechanical Services were approached by Dr David Johnston to design, supply and install a biomass heating system in Maine Medical Practice, Cullybackey. Co Antrim

The existing site presented a challenging environment, as there was limited space for the biomass installation and downtime was not an option for the practice.

We set in motion a programme of works (including building works, electrics and liaising with Building Control throughout the installation) to complete the new biomass system without any disruption to the practice, this included working nights and weekends with late night scheduled shut downs of the heating system to make the new connections.

The new biomass heating system was fully installed within six weeks from order date.  Maine Medical now has a highly efficient and cost-effective heating system which does not rely on fossil fuel.

We were contracted to carry out a complete biomass heating system upgrade consisting of the following system elements:

  • Biomass Boiler

  • Bespoke Designed Buffer Tank (Due to size constraints)

  • Hydraulic connection of the above System

  • Plate Heat Exchangers

  • Energy Saving Pumps

  • Thermally Insulated Alu Clad Pipework

  • Insulated Pump & Valve Covers

  • Automated BMS Controls System

“CHP Mechanical Services designed, installed and commissioned a biomass heating system for our health centre utilising existing space within a difficult site.  We were delighted with the result, the excellent workmanship and heat.”
